New Delhi, 24 Dec: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today addressed a press conference in New Delhi where he criticised the Congress party for engaging in divisive politics and distorting Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent statement in Parliament for political gain. He also accused Congress of exploiting the legacy of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, while historically disrespecting and undermining him.
Dhami alleged that Congress, which had consistently insulted Ambedkar in the past, is now pretending to champion his legacy. He said the Congress party’s actions and policies have always been “anti-Ambedkar. He also cited instances where Ambedkar was denied opportunities and recognition by the Congress Government. Dhami demanded an unconditional apology from Congress for its historical mistreatment of Dr Ambedkar, including not allowing him to speak in the House after his resignation as Law Minister and preventing him from becoming a member of the Constituent Assembly.
Dhami reminded that Dr Ambedkar, in his resignation letter, had criticised Jawaharlal Nehru and the Congress for neglecting the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes while prioritising other communities. He accused Congress of staging “drama” with press conferences across the country, pointing out that it was the same party that defeated Ambedkar in elections, forced his resignation, and delayed awarding him the Bharat Ratna.
The CM also credited BJP leaders and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government for preserving and honouring Ambedkar’s legacy and cited the construction of memorials, including the Ambedkar Center in Delhi, memorials at Deeksha Bhoomi in Nagpur, Chaitya Bhoomi in Mumbai, and Ambedkar’s residence in London as the projects, all of which were completed under BJP leadership in honour of Ambedkar. Dhami emphasised that Congress, by contrast, never initiated such efforts and instead named hundreds of institutions and infrastructure projects only after the Nehru-Gandhi family.
Dhami further criticised the Congress for honouring Narayan Sadoba Kajrolkar, who defeated Ambedkar in elections, with the Padma Bhushan in 1970, while failing to recognise Ambedkar’s contributions during its rule.
Dhami praised Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling them the strongest leaders since Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He credited them with significant decisions like the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and other initiatives in the national interest. He also accused Congress of twisting Shah’s statements to create political controversy but expressed confidence that the people of India would see through these tactics. He concluded by asserting that the public has taught Congress a lesson in the past and will do so again in the future.
