Punjab Men’s and Tamil Nadu Women’s teams shine in 38th National Games Basketball finals

DEHRADUN, 2 Feb: Dehradun’s Bhagirathi Hall of Maharana Pratap Stadium witnessed an electrifying basketball showdown as Punjab‘s men’s and Tamil Nadu’s women’s teams emerged victorious at the 38th National Games. The intense matches kept the audience on the edge of their seats, showcasing skill, teamwork, and an unyielding fighting spirit.
The Punjab men’s team showcased a remarkable performance, securing the gold medal after a nail-biting match against Tamil Nadu. With a final score of 63-57, Punjab managed to outplay Tamil Nadu, which fought hard but had to settle for the silver medal. The game was a thrilling display of tactical gameplay, with both teams exchanging leads multiple times. Punjab‘s solid defence and swift counterattacks proved to be the game-changer in the final quarter.
Delhi, on the other hand, claimed the bronze medal, defeating the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) in another intense battle. Delhi’s players showed resilience and determination, outscoring SSCB in the final moments to secure a podium finish.
Tamil Nadu‘s women’s team delivered a stellar performance, dominating Kerala with an impressive score of 79-46. From the very first quarter, Tamil Nadu maintained a fierce and aggressive style of play, leaving Kerala struggling to close the gap. Their sharp three-pointers and fast breaks overwhelmed their opponents, sealing their gold medal victory.
Meanwhile, the bronze medal match was a nerve-wracking contest between Karnataka and Punjab. Karnataka managed to edge past Punjab with a slim one-point victory, making it one of the closest matches of the tournament. The final moments saw Punjab attempting a last-second shot, but Karnataka’s defence held firm, securing their place on the podium.
Uttarakhand’s Sports Minister, Ms. Rekha Arya, and delegates Arya Varshana felicitated the winners in a grand ceremony. The event celebrated the hard work and dedication of the players, coaches, and support staff and acknowledged their contribution to the sport.
The 38th National Games basketball finals not only highlighted the competitive spirit of the athletes but also reinforced India’s growing prowess in basketball.
