Dehradun, 14 Jul: As part of the ongoing “Operation Kalnemi”, launched to crack down on fake babas, police have so far arrested around 82 imposters. The operation continues across the region.

In a recent development, Sahaspur Police arrested a Bangladeshi national posing as a baba. The accused has been identified as Rukan Rakom alias Shah Alam, 26, son of Abur, and a resident of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

According to officials, police have now gathered solid evidence confirming his nationality. An Aadhaar card recovered during the investigation clearly shows that he is a resident of Bangladesh.

SSP Ajai Singh stated that the man was found to be living in India illegally. A case has been registered against him at Sahaspur Police Station under the Foreigners Act. At the time of his arrest, he did not possess any valid documents to prove his nationality.

Police contacted the Ministry of External Affairs and, through them, reached out to the Bangladesh Government. The Bangladesh Government sent documents which confirmed that the accused belongs to Tangail district in Bangladesh.

After completing all legal formalities, the accused will be deported to Bangladesh. Police said this action is part of a larger drive to identify and arrest imposters posing as saints in the state.
