Dehradun, 2 Jan: BJP State Media In-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan today accused the State Congress of singing a discordant tune laced with falsehood and deception in the Ankita Bhandari murder case. In a statement issued today, Chauhan alleged that the Congress party is beating its own drum while the public has refused to place any faith in its claims. He said the Congress is indulging in deliberate misinformation and political theatrics rather than standing with the truth.
Reacting to a statement made by the Congress Vice-President, Chauhan said the Congress is desperately searching for ground to spread propaganda by selectively citing one statement. He said the woman accused in the case, who has levelled allegations, should come forward during the investigation and establish the authenticity of her claims, but she has chosen to remain silent. Chauhan added that it is only the Congress which is continuing to amplify her allegations despite the absence of any supporting evidence. Chauhan said the court has already upheld the SIT investigation and rejected the demand for a CBI probe in the matter. He said action against the culprits in the murder case was taken strictly on the basis of the SIT investigation, yet the Congress has remained dissatisfied because, according to him, it is more concerned about its political interests than ensuring justice for Ankita.
The BJP leader further claimed that the Congress has, from the very beginning, attempted to inject the issue of VIP involvement into the case and has continuously politicised the matter. Chauhan asserted that the BJP is not afraid of any investigation and has, in fact, consistently called for full cooperation in the investigative process. He alleged that the Congress tends to search for pawns and then level character assassination charges against senior leaders without evidence.
Chauhan said the Congress is now working on a strategy to malign BJP leaders, but warned that such efforts will yield no political benefit. He claimed that the public has already taught the Congress a lesson in the Lok Sabha, the urban local body and the Panchayat elections. He said the people of the state will not forgive the politics of falsehood and blackmail and will no longer tolerate any obstruction to development works in Uttarakhand under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
