DEHRADUN, 12 Feb: The 38th National Games in Uttarakhand have been filled with energy, excitement, and intense competition. Athletes from all over India are putting forth their best efforts to secure medals. However, beyond the rivalry, a heartwarming moment of sportsmanship captured everyone’s attention. On Day 15 of the Games, the wrestling event was in full swing. In the women’s 53kg category, Annu from Bihar faced off against July from Uttar Pradesh. The match was swift and one-sided—July showcased her skills with four back rolls, winning decisively with a score of 10-0. But just as the match concluded, something unexpected occurred. Annu struggled to rise—she had sustained an injury during the bout. In visible pain, she found it difficult to stand. The crowd fell silent, concerned for her well-being.

Then, in a remarkable display of sportsmanship, July stepped forward. Rather than reveling in her victory, she knelt down and assisted Annu to her feet. Noticing that Annu was still having trouble, July lifted her off the mat and carried her to the players’ area, ensuring she received the necessary medical attention.
This act of kindness resonated with everyone present. It served as a poignant reminder that sports extend beyond mere competition; they embody respect, compassion, and humanity. July’s gesture illustrated that true champions are those who elevate others, even amidst rivalry.
In a world where wins and losses are frequently celebrated or overlooked, moments like this linger in our hearts forever. The 38th National Games will be remembered not only for the medals earned but also for the kindness and sportsmanship that illuminated the event.
