Dehradun, 7 Apr: Additional Director General of Police, Crime and Law & Order, V Murugesan today conducted a detailed review of law & order through a video conference with Inspectors General (IG) Garhwal and IG Kumaon and with senior and district level police officers. The review meeting was held at the Police Headquarters auditorium. The issues discussed included tenant and domestic worker verification, strengthening of women’s safety through the Gaura Shakti module and intensifying efforts under Operation Smile for tracing missing persons.

During the review, the ADG issued clear directions to the officials to ensure mandatory verification of tenants and domestic workers as per the provisions of the Uttarakhand Police Act 2007. The IGs of Garhwal and Kumaon were instructed to widely publicise these provisions so that awareness reaches every household.

Murugesan emphasised that if tenants or domestic workers fail to produce required documents or if any suspicion arises, immediate technical verification must be carried out through ICJS portal, NCRC or NAFIS. Residential apartments and gated colonies must undergo one hundred per cent verification, and violations must invite statutory action. He added that verification forms sent to other districts and states must be regularly followed up, and the process should not be confined to special campaigns but treated as a continuous exercise.

The ADG also directed that awareness programmes be organised to popularise the Gaura Shakti module and encourage maximum registration of women and girls. He made it clear that complaints related to women must be handled with utmost seriousness and sensitivity, ensuring prompt disposal. In areas identified as sensitive for crimes against women, regular patrolling by Mahila Cheeta Police must be carried out. All criminal cases involving women and children must be investigated and disposed of within the stipulated time frame.

Murugesan directed strict compliance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by Police Headquarters in respect of Operation Smile, particularly in cases involving missing women and children, where sensitivity and active pursuit are paramount. The ADG stressed that recovery of missing persons must be treated as a priority and handled with compassion.

Among those present at the meeting were IG, Crime and Law & Order, Sunil Kumar Meena; DIG, crime and law & order, Dhirendra Gunjyal; SSP, crime and law & order, Ramchandra Rajguru and ASP, crime and law & order, Ankush Mishra. The ADG reiterated that the police must remain vigilant and proactive, ensuring that verification, women’s safety and recovery of missing persons are pursued with determination and sensitivity across the state.
