Dehradun, 14 Oct: Children’s Academy School hosted a motivational talk featuring Air Commodore Amul Kapoor (Retd) as the guest speaker. During his address, he inspired students to explore careers in the Indian Armed Forces and emphasised the importance of national pride, highlighting the respect India commands globally.
Air Commodore Kapoor (Retd) shared his rich experiences, including his service in the Kargil War and his significant involvement with various NGOs. He also recounted his role as a fighter pilot in the acclaimed film, “Border”, which illustrated the valour and commitment of armed forces personnel.
Commissioned as a Flying Officer on 2 June 1973, Air Commodore Kapoor is not only a Qualified Flying Instructor but also a Fighter Combat Leader. His academic credentials include training at the Defence Services Staff College and the College of Defence Management.
In April 1993, he took command of a MiG-21 Squadron after a tragic incident that resulted in the loss of his predecessor. Through his exceptional leadership, he successfully restored the squadron’s operational readiness, increasing aircraft serviceability from 58% to 72%—a level maintained for four consecutive months. His efforts garnered the squadron high commendations, earning ratings of “Highly Satisfactory” from the Directorate of Air Staff Inspection and “Above Average” from the Aircrew Examining Board. Additionally, the squadron excelled in the Command Armament meet, winning trophies in both the rocket firing team event and an individual event.
In recognition of his outstanding dedication to duty, the President awarded the ‘Vayu Sena Medal’ to Air Commodore Kapoor (Retd).
Currently, Air Commodore Kapoor dedicates his time to honorary welfare work as the President of the Air Force Association, Uttarakhand Branch, a role he has held since November 2019. His commitment extends to organisations such as the Wildlife Preservation Society (India) and the Uttarakhand Ex-Services League, as well as over four years of experience managing NGOs that support differently-abled children.
Air Commodore Kapoor (Retd) encouraged the students to cultivate self-motivation, stressing its vital role in achieving success across all aspects of life. His talk served as an inspiring reminder of the impact of dedication and service.
