Dehradun, 27 Dec: As part of its social commitment to adolescent girls, a one-day interactive workshop on menstrual hygiene and health was organised today at the Government Primary School, Rampur Village, here, with the support of Gautam Buddha Medical College, Jhajhra, and Dr KKBM Subharti Hospital, by the All India Women’s Conference (AIWC).

The workshop addressed the sensitive issue of menstrual hygiene and health, which is often overlooked. A recent survey conducted by AIWC revealed alarming facts that many adolescent girls not only lack proper information about this physical phenomenon but also believe in several superstitions and taboos, mostly related to social and cultural backgrounds.

The workshop was conducted by Dr Himani Dwar (Senior Obstetrician and Gynaecologist), who engaged with the young girls in a friendly and interactive manner. She discussed their problems openly and provided solutions. Nursing Superintendent Priyanka Chaudhary advised the students on the physical changes occurring during adolescence and urged them not to believe in social myths surrounding menstruation, emphasising the importance of maintaining cleanliness.

The Principal of Government Primary School, Rampur, RK Sharma, and AIWC-Sahaspur Centre In-charge, Akshara Wadalikar, thanked the Subharti team for conducting the workshop. Aditya Gautam (SDO, Marketing) shared information about the hospital’s services, such as the Bodhi Plan, Maternity Plan, and free eye camps. Hospital Executive Sunny Dheeman extended his support, and the workshop was guided by Dr Prashant Kumar Bhatnagar, Assistant Professor (Community Medicine) and Head of the Marketing and Publicity Division.
