Haldwani, 16 Oct: Union Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt has reacted sharply to the statement on Veer Savarkar made yesterday by veteran Congress leader Harish Rawat in Haridwar. Rawat had blamed Savarkar for the partition of the country. Bhatt today claimed that Congress leaders were either not aware of history or were deliberately twisting it. He advised Harish Rawat and other Congress leaders to take a tour to the Cellular prison in Andaman & Nicobar Islands and see for themselves what all Veer Savarkar had to go through while imprisoned by the British. Bhatt claimed that once Harish Rawat visits the Cellular Jail in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, he may come to realise the greatness of Veer Savarkar.

Bhatt also claimed that Congress leaders continuously try to claim monopoly over the independence struggle and mislead the people. Now, out of power at the Centre and many states, Congress leaders are left with little or no serious work to do that is why they make irrelevant and controversial claims just to remain in the headlines. Either they do not do not know history or they deliberately ignore the historical facts.

It may be recalled that former Chief Minister Harish Rawat had yesterday claimed in Haridwar that ‘Veer Savarkar was the first to talk about a separate country (Pakistan) for Muslims and BJP considers Savarkar as its favourite. Rawat had in fact gone on to claim that Mohammad Ali Jinnah had taken the inspiration of Pakistan from Savarkar and the word Pakistan was also a creation of Savarkar. Rawat had also described Mohammad Ali Jinnah as an ideological son of Savarkar.

Ajay Bhatt was in Haldwani to inaugurate the Ramlila programme on Sunday at Lalkuan organised by Adarsh Ramlila Committee. Bhatt on the occasion appealed to the people to follow the ideals of Lord Ram. He also praised the Ramlila organisers and said that Ram’s story can inspire people to reform themselves and to lead a dignified life. Bhatt, while inaugurating Ramlila, performed the aarti of Shri Ram and congratulated everyone on Navratri. He also observed that the temple of Lord Ram, the ideal of all, is nearing completion in Ayodhya. People are now waiting for the inauguration of this temple. It is expected that soon devotees will have darshan of Ram at the grand temple in Ayodhya.
