BIS advises customers to check authenticity of products through BIS Care App

Dehradun, 30 Apr: On the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Branch Office, Dehradun, organised a press conference here to raise consumer awareness about product quality and standardisation. The press conference was addressed by Director and Head of BIS Dehradun, Saurabh Tiwari.

Addressing the gathering, Tiwari urged consumers to remain vigilant while making purchases during festivals, particularly while buying jewellery and other valuables. He highlighted that consumers can verify the authenticity of products using the BIS Care Mobile App. For purchase of jewellery, he recommended purchasing only the items that carry hallmarked unique identification (HUID).

Additionally, he also advised consumers to look for the ISI mark on various products and registration marks on electronic goods to ensure certified quality. He revealed that numerous uncertified products have been seized during BIS-led raids in different states from time to time. This he said underscores the importance of greater consumer awareness and caution in preventing fraud.

Tiwari also appealed to media representatives to help disseminate this critical information, enabling more consumers to make informed choices. BIS officials also provided insights into the hallmarking process, the significance of the ISI mark, and the use of the BIS Care App for authentication.

The press conference, he stated, has been organised as a major step towards promoting consumer awareness and product authenticity.
