DEHRADUN, 3 May: BJP has criticised former Punjab Chief Minister and Congress leader Charanjit Singh Channi, for demanding proof of the surgical strike made by calling it an attack on the morale of the Armed forces. BJP State president and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt on Saturday accused Congress of having a history of undermining the Army and claimed that such statements are made under the influence of the party’s high command.
Bhatt asserted that the nation is anguished by the Pahalgam incident, and under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Armed forces are prepared to retaliate against terrorists and their sponsors. He termed Channi’s remarks as shameful and anti-national, stating that bringing up the demand for surgical strike proof once again is an attempt to question the army’s valour.
Bhatt claimed that this is not an isolated statement by Channi but reflects the official stance of Congress, which, he alleged, has deliberately used Channi to cast doubt on the military’s achievements. He further claimed that Congress has never fully trusted the Indian Army and its capabilities and is now speaking in contradictory tones, expressing a need to act against terrorism while simultaneously questioning decisive actions such as the surgical strike.
Bhatt also took a jibe at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, stating that while he demands an action plan on terrorism in party meetings, the Congress starts raising objections when the government takes concrete steps. He accused Congress of playing vote-bank politics and repeatedly demoralising the Armed forces through such statements.
Bhatt claimed that the people of the country are now aware of Congress’s tactics and will eventually give their response through the electoral process.
