Dehradun, 29 Aug: A major mishap occurred near Sahiya at Lalpul in Chakrata this morning. A Tata Tiago car bearing registration number DL9C 8092, carrying tourists from Delhi, Noida and Varanasi, suddenly went out of control and fell into a ravine about 35 metres deep. The accident created panic at the spot and local residents immediately informed the police.
On receiving the alert, a team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) led by Sub‑Inspector Jaspal Singh rushed to the site along with local police. The ravine being considerably deep, the rescue operation proved arduous. The joint team however managed to descend safely and reach the vehicle, after which all the five occupants were brought out one by one. The injured were then shifted by ambulance to hospital for treatment.
The car had three men and two women on board. Two of them sustained serious injuries while three received minor wounds. The injured have been identified as Rohan Kumar, aged about 23 years, resident of New Delhi; Abhishek Dubey, aged about 26 years, resident of Rohini, Delhi; Abhishek, aged about 26 years, resident of Noida, Uttar Pradesh; Shivani Singh, aged about 22 years, resident of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh; and Prince Raj, aged about 22 years, resident of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
Sahiya police outpost in‑charge Sandeep Panwar shared with the media that the car, bound for Chakrata, lost control near Lalpul and plunged downhill. All the five injured persons were rescued and sent to hospital. Doctor at the Community Health Centre (CGC) Dr Huma Parveen informed media that four of the injured were given first aid and then subsequently referred to a higher centre. Police have commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
