The government’s decision to conduct caste-based census is a historic and far-sighted step towards social justice. This initiative will ensure the identification of those sections of society which have been marginalised for decades and whose participation in the mainstream of development is extremely important to ensure social justice.
The ‘All India Martyr and Freedom Fighter Welfare Maha Parishad’ heartily welcomes this decision and considers it a move to strengthen the foundation of democracy. This census will not only present a realistic picture of the social structure but will also inform the government on which areas and sections need more help and opportunities.
In this context, the Mahaparishad specially urges that the caste and socio-economic status of the families of freedom fighters should also be assessed separately.
The condition of the families of the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the independence of India is still mostly neglected. After the end of the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence, it has become even more important that the socio-economic status of their descendants be highlighted and they get due respect, facilities and protection in accordance with their contribution.
With the special census of freedom fighter families—
- Their historical contribution will be recognised;
- The truth of social and economic status will come to the fore;
- It will be easy to reach the benefits of schemes to them;
And the inspiration of patriotism will spread among future generations.
The Maha Parishad is of the opinion that when we are trying to make the caste census an inclusive and just process, then it becomes a moral and national responsibility to include those families who sacrificed everything to make this country independent.
Therefore, the Maha Parishad requests the government to make the special census of freedom fighter families an integral part of the caste census, so that concrete steps can be taken towards their social rehabilitation, welfare and pride.
