CM Dhami directs officials to expedite Song Dam Project

Dehradun, 20 Nov: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami chaired a meeting at the Secretariat here today regarding the Song River Dam project. During the meeting, he directed the officials to expedite the rehabilitation process to start work on the project.

He asserted that the affected families which are to be displaced should be provided alternate land as soon as possible and as far as possible based on their consent. All basic facilities should be provided to these families.

The CM also added that, in case, there is a need to construct community buildings, temples, roads, or any other infrastructure, it should be done based on consent by talking to the affected families. During the meeting, the Chief Minister also stated that the work on the Jamrani Dam project be expedited.

The Song Dam drinking water project is expected to supply 150 MLD of drinking water per day to about 11 lakh people in Dehradun city. It is also hoped that once the river water is used for drinking water supply, it will also improve the groundwater level. This apart, about 15,000 people, living in 10 villages located downstream of the dam will also be protected from the annual floods.

Chief Secretary Radha Raturi, Secretaries Shailesh Bagoli, Vinay Shankar Pandey, SN Pandey and Dr R Rajesh Kumar, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) and Head of the Forest Force (HOFF) D Dhananjay Mohan, Additional Secretaries Ranveer Singh Chauhan and Lalit Mohan Raiyal and the Chief Engineer of the Irrigation Department, Jaipal Singh, and other senior officers concerned were among those present.
