Dehradun, 21 Nov: The Dehradun Municipal Corporation (Nagar Nigam) has issued a fresh notice to Econ Watergrace Management over continued negligence in the garbage collection system in the city. The Corporation has sought a response from the company to its notice within 7 days. The notice issued has warned the company of confiscating the security amount and blacklisting it for not providing a clear answer and not cooperating in the garbage collection system. The notice has been given in connection with not working according to the conditions of the contract and for spreading disorder at the Kargi Transfer Station, and for negligence in door-to-door garbage collection.
It may be recalled that instructions were issued at the review meeting held on 6 November under the chairmanship of District Magistrate/ Municipal Administrator Savin Bansal. The Municipal Corporation has stated that cooperation must be provided by the company in the garbage collection system until the arrival of a new firm, with a warning of seizing security and blacklisting in case of non-cooperation. The notice also says that due to non-cooperation, sanitation and cleanliness in the city is continuously being affected.
The Nagar Nigam says that the owners of the vehicles hired by Econ Watergrace Management have parked a truck and a JCB machine at the fork, thereby obstructing the path of the 77 vehicles deployed for door-to-door garbage collection and of other vehicles carrying garbage to the transfer station by dumpers/tractors, etc. This obstruction has caused a possibility of garbage not being completely lifted from the city and has led to the garbage collection vehicles not being emptied, leading to the spread of garbage. Additionally, the work of sending garbage from the transfer station located at Kargi to the Sheeshambada processing plant has also been completely obstructed. The expected cooperation is not being provided to the Municipal Corporation in improving and operating the cleaning system.
The Corporation has stated that over the past one month, only about 140 metric tons of garbage is being collected daily, which is the responsibility of the company to deliver to the Sheeshambada processing plant. However, for the past month, the company has been operating only 1-2 vehicles at the said site, resulting in about only 25 to 30 percent of the total collected garbage being sent to the processing plant by the company. Due to this negligence, there is a possibility of public agitation due to the spread of foul smell in the area.
