Mussoorie, 13 Mar: The condition of the Mussoorie Lake, an important tourist destination, is in bad shape. Its water is filthy and can impact on the health of tourists.
The responsibility of maintaining the tourist site lies with the municipal council and the contractor of the lake. Neither is the contractor paying attention to the cleanliness of the lake and the surrounding filth, nor is the municipal administration. There is resentment among the local people as well as tourists in this regard. Hundreds of tourists reach Mussoorie Lake every day, but the condition of the lake is deteriorating and its foul smell troubles the locals.
According to public representative Rakesh Rawat the lake should be cleaned every year by the municipality, but unfortunately this has not been done for the last 4 to 5 years. As a result, the water has turned black. Local people said that Mussoorie Municipality claims to have come first in the cleanliness survey, but the Mussoorie Lake is an example of its failure.
Municipal Executive Officer Ashutosh Sati said that notice is being given to the contractor on this issue. Action will be taken against him as per rules. Social organisations will be asked to play an important role in the cleanliness of the Mussoorie Lake area.
