Dehradun, 3 Feb: BJP’s State Media in charge Manveer Chauhan today claimed that during Congress rule in Uttarakhand, the then government was also a partner in the illegal liquor trade. He was reacting to allegations levelled by former CM Harish Rawat against the BJP Government.

Chauhan said that, in those days, the liquor policy of the state had been prepared by the liquor mafia.  The sting operations on excise officials during that period which had gone viral were evidence of how the liquor mafia was interfering in the government. He said that the well-known Dennis liquor scam had exposed the government’s mafia-like activity. At that time, instead of providing employment to the youth, the government was promoting drug abuse. Substandard liquor was being marketed in the state under pressure from the liquor mafia and the government was playing with the health of the people.

Chauhan claimed that, at present, there is rule of law in the state and the police had a free hand to deal with crime. A separate wing of the STF has been constituted for action against drug smugglers and accountability has been fixed. He claimed that today the government is working impartially and without pressure to bring the law breakers under the purview of the law.
