Dehradun, 4 Jun: Veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister Harish Rawat visited the Counting Centre at the International Cricket Stadium here, today, along with his son Virender Rawat who contested from the Haridwar Lok Sabha seat. It may be recalled that three assembly segments of this constituency are from Dehradun district, namely Doiwala, Rishikesh and Dharampur and the counting of votes for these segments was held at the International Cricket Stadium here.
Speaking to media persons, Harish Rawat commented that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections have proven to be a major boost for the Congress.
Rawat said that BJP and Modi’s slogan of 400 seats has proven to be hollow while there have been significant gains for the Congress. There are some lessons to be learnt from the elections and that the Congress will work even harder to improve its performance in the future. When he visited the centre, counting was still underway. He claimed that the Congress would win the Haridwar seat. He however admitted that there is a close contest between the BJP and the Congress on the seat. He added that BJP had given the slogan of crossing 400 seats but this had been badly shattered. He asserted that the people are not willing to accept or tolerate the arrogance of any leader anymore. Rawat claimed that a threshold point has been achieved by the Congress and from here it will only consolidate further. He added that the results have boosted the morale of the Congress workers.
