Youth voted against BJP in LS polls: Karan Mahara

By Our Staff Reporter

Dehradun, 4 Jun:  While talking to some media persons informally at the PCC Headquarters here, today, Uttarakhand Congress State President Karan Mahara claimed that the BJP has lost lot of support and political ground because of its divisive politics and arrogance. Mahara claimed that BJP tried to win the elections by polarisation of society, but the people did not let it succeed. Conceding the defeat of the party in Uttarakhand, he claimed that Congress has fought well in these elections. He also sought to blame the wrong choice of candidates as a probable reason behind the fact that Congress could not win any seat from the state.  He added that, despite this, the Congress has performed better than before and has also succeeded in reducing the margin of victory and defeat. In response to a question, Karan Mahara said that he believes that big faces could have been given tickets as better candidates in the state. If Congress had given tickets to Yashpal Arya, Harish Rawat and Pritam Singh, the Congress could have won these three seats. Not only this, the Congress candidate would have benefited from the presence of these faces on the Garhwal Lok Sabha seat as well, he added.

Karan Mahara said that, in Uttarakhand, the Congress fought the elections on very serious issues like the Ankita Bhandari murder case and unemployment. But the BJP adopted the path of pitting Hindus and Muslims against each other. In such a situation, the educated intellectuals have supported the Congress.

Mahara said about the performance of Congress in the Lok Sabha elections that, due to the hard work of Rahul Gandhi and Congress workers, the party has performed better this time. He said that wherever BJP is ahead, it seems that hatred has won, while the educated youth of the country have voted against unemployment, corruption and atrocities on farmers.
