Dehradun, 23 Mar: The BJP has termed the Congress’s agitation against the sentence awarded to Rahul Gandhi as an insult to the court’s decision and as a ploy to put pressure on the judicial process. Reacting sharply to this development, party state president Mahendra Bhatt said, ironically, Congress’s National president Mallikarjun Kharge talks about trusting the court on this whole incident and appealing in the High Court, on the other hand, the party is also protesting against the sentence and blaming Modi Government for it.
Bhatt claimed that there is a competition among the Congress leaders of Uttarakhand to prove their loyalty to the Gandhi Family by staging a protest. Bhatt was interacting with the media persons at the BJP’s State Headquarters here today. He reminded that the court has sentenced Rahul Gandhi to 2 years imprisonment after finding him guilty of defamation. The case took around four years till the stage of judgement. But after this decision, instead of being ashamed or accepting the mistake of their leader’s statement insulting an entire society, the Congress leaders were indulging in cheap politics by agitating against the BJP Government at the Centre. Their protests and arrests are directly against the decision of the the judiciary and an insult to the country’s judicial process.
Bhatt said that once again the hypocrisy of the Congress has come to the fore, because on the one hand its own national president Mallikarjun Kharge is talking about trusting the law and in the judicial process in this matter by declaring that they would be appealing against the sentence in the higher court, while on the other hand his party leaders are protesting.
