Dehradun, 14 Dec: Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Vice President, Organisation, Mathura Dutt Joshi today stated that the state unit of the Congress has begun its preparations for the upcoming Parliamentary Elections and the Urban Local Bodies polls. Joshi said that, in this regard, PCC Chief Karan Mahara is currently chairing meetings of District Congress Committees in Kumaon region. The meetings have officially begun today and will continue till 21 December.
Joshi informed media that a district conference were organised in Champawat on 14 December, and meetings will be held in Pithoragarh on 15 December, in Bageshwar on 16 December, in Almora on 17 December, in Nainital on 20 December and in Udham Singh Nagar on 21 December.
The veteran Congress leader said that, during the district Congress workers’ conferences, special discussion is being held on how to strengthen the party organisation at the booth level and how to convey the failures of the central and state governments to the people through the party workers. For this, State President Karan Mahara is working to boost the morale of the workers by participating in all the meetings and giving necessary instructions to the party workers. He is also seeking their feedback on what else can be done. Mahara said that Uttarakhand’s daughter Ankita Bhandari’s murder case needs to be investigated by the CBI, and that right under the nose of BJP Government, in Manipur, women were stripped and paraded on the streets which was a scandal that brought shame to the country. Poverty, unemployment, women’s oppression are important issues that need to be highlighted before the people. Joshi added that issues like atrocities against Dalits will also be raised prominently through worker conferences.
In his statement, Joshi claimed that the union and state governments are not able to provide justice to women. There have been recruitment scams in the state in which BJP leaders themselves have been involved but till date the unemployed have not got justice. He reminded that the name of the VIP in Uttarakhand’s daughter Ankita Bhandari case has not been revealed, yet, and due to poor management, a large number of people have lost their lives in the dengue epidemic. They also claimed that the Modi Government has cheated the youth of the country by bringing schemes like Agniveer. Joshi called upon the youth of the state to take to the streets and organise a mass movement against the anti-people policies of the BJP so that the atrocities being committed in the country and the state can be avenged.
Joshi said that the state government has become a willing tool in the hands of the mining mafia. He said that government is promoting large scale illegal mining in the state and that all the mining policies are being made at the mafias’ behest. The liquor mafia is openly indulging in arbitrariness in the state while the government just remains a mute spectator. He added that the Congress will take these issues to the people.
