CS orders timely completion of Jamrani and Song Dam projects

Dehradun, 21 Jan: Chief Secretary (CS) Anand Bardhan conducted a high-level review of the Jamrani and Song Dam projects, currently under construction by the Irrigation Department, at the Secretariat here today. During the session, he discussed both the significant projects in detail and issued specific directives to ensure their completion within the stipulated timeframes.

While reviewing the Jamrani Dam Multipurpose Project and the Song Dam Drinking Water Project, Bardhan instructed the Irrigation Department to expedite all the processes required for the completion of the projects. He emphasised that all the tenders and other necessary formalities must be concluded on schedule. He further directed the department to prepare a comprehensive flow chart for the entire project lifecycle to ensure every phase is completed as planned. To accelerate construction, the CS stressed upon the importance of increasing the availability of essential raw materials. He also insisted that quality control must remain a top priority and he also mandated regular first-party, second-party, and third-party quality assessments and evaluations.

Addressing the human element of the infrastructure projects, Bardhan directed that the rehabilitation of affected persons be carried out with promptness and within a fixed timeline. He directed the officials to handle compensation, resettlement, and land allotment through mutual coordination and by taking the local people into confidence. He noted that continuous dialogue should be maintained with those affected to build trust throughout the process.

During the meeting, Secretary, Irrigation, Yugal Kishore Pant shared that the total cost of the Jamrani Dam Multipurpose Project stands at Rs 3,678.23 crores, with a projected completion date of June 2029. Regarding the Song Dam Project, he detailed that it is a 130.60-metre high, 150 MLD gravity-based drinking water project costing Rs 2,524.42 crores. The construction for this project is expected to be finished by November 2029. Head of Department Irrigation Subhash Chandra and other senior officers were also present on the occasion.
