Mussoorie, 28 Aug: Thousands of litres of water have been flowing onto Camel’s Back Road near the Sapphire Hotel here due to a damaged drinking water pipeline. The continuous flow has made the road slippery, creating an accident hazard for two-wheeler riders.
Locals allege that despite reporting the issue, the Garhwal Jal Sansthan failed to repair the damaged line by late evening.
According to residents, a large volume of water is spilling onto the road following the damage to the pipeline. A section of the road has become completely wet, causing two-wheelers passing through to skid. Consequently, a serious accident could occur at any moment. Residents point out that Camel’s Back Road sees heavy traffic from both tourists and locals, necessitating immediate action from the department. Questioning the functioning of the Garhwal Jal Sansthan, locals noted that during the summer and tourist seasons, many areas of the city face a shortage of adequate drinking water, with limited supplies in several locations. Yet, due to departmental negligence, thousands of litres of water are being wasted as they flow onto the road. Residents argue that failing to repair the line promptly after being notified is not merely a matter of water wastage but a serious safety issue for road users.
Locals alleged that the failure to repair the line despite complaints raises questions about the department’s operations. They demanded immediate repair of the damaged line and the removal of accumulated water from the road to prevent any untoward incident. Attempts were made to contact officials from the Garhwal Jal Sansthan regarding this matter, but they could not be reached. The department’s response, once received, will also be published.
