Dehradun, 31 Mar: The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Jigyasa University successfully organised a one-day workshop sponsored by Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology on the theme, “Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in Pharmaceutical Sciences: Emerging Trends, Innovations, and Impact on Higher Education and Research Processes”.
The Chief Guest, Dr S Farooq, President of Himalaya Wellness Company, stated in his address that protecting intellectual property rights is crucial for fostering innovation in the pharmaceutical sector. He explained that IPR not only grants researchers ownership of their inventions but also strengthens collaboration between industry and academia. He also urged young people to become more aware of innovation and patenting.
The event was organised under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Prof (Dr) Shankar Ramamurthy. In his message, he emphasised that, in the present time, understanding IPR has become essential for ensuring both the quality and protection of research. He highlighted that such workshops are highly beneficial for students and researchers and stressed the need for more such initiatives.
Distinguished guests included ML Joshi, former Registrar of Uttarakhand Pharmacy Council; Prof (Dr) Shivanand Patil from the Pharmacy Council of India; and Tribhuvan Semwal, General Manager (Production) at Uni Medicolabs, Dehradun. They shared their views on the relevance of IPR.
Invited expert speakers Prof (Dr) Atul Kaushik, Dr Rahul Taneja, Ram Kishore Kushwaha, and Himanshu Goyal delivered detailed lectures on patent filing, protection of innovations, and emerging research trends. They also emphasised the need to build stronger bridges between academic research and industry.
The workshop was coordinated by Prof (Dr) Amandeep Singh, Principal of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The event was attended by Registrar In-charge Dr Yogesh Nanda, IQAC Director Prof (Dr) Manish Sharma, deans of various faculties, and a large number of students.
