DGP orders Covid test of all police officials

DEHRADUN, 29 Nov: Detection of Corona infection in 7 Police Officials of Uttarakhand Police, deputed on VVIP duty In Rishikesh for President Ram Nath Kovind’s visit has shaken the entire Police Department. What is even more worrisome is the fact that more VVIP visits including that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi are upcoming in Uttarakhand particularly in view of the upcoming state assembly polls here. Therefore, taking a serious note of the incident, Director General of Police, Ashok Kumar has ordered Covid antigen test for all the Police officials in the state. It may be recalled that some days ago, as many as 11 IFS Officers visiting FRI campus for mid term training were also detected with Corona infection. Besides, this, suddenly, the number of cases of Corona seem to be on the rise. On Saturday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had also appealed to the people to follow Covid appropriate behaviour and had directed the officials to ensure better compliance of Covid appropriate behaviour as well as to push up the vigilance on the borders, railway stations and bus stations and conduct Covid tests. The new Omicron strain has become the major cause of concern the world over these days. Meanwhile, the graph of corona virus infection is rising again in Uttarakhand. The police department is no exception to this. The Police department is naturally shaken after seven policemen of Pauri district were found corona infected. In such a situation, now the Covid test of policemen will be done across the state. Uttarakhand Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar has directed the district incharges of the Police to conduct a fresh corona test of all police officers and employees, so that it could be found out how many police personnel were Corona infected. At the same time, samples of people and relatives who came in contact with seven policemen found infected are being taken. The police administration has become alert about the upcoming Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Dehradun. Corona test will be done for every policeman posted in the security of the Prime Minister. In addition, all the leaves of Police officials too have been cancelled. No leaves would be allowed for the Police officials till 29 December. This decision has been taken in view of the upcoming VVIP visits and the upcoming polls in the state. Besides, this Corona cases are also rising and therefore stricter vigil by the Police is required in the coming days. Those requiring urgent leave would have to get their leaves approved from the Police Headquarters, said the latest orders issued in this respect.
