Dehradun, 10 Jul: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today undertook an extensive on-site inspection of rain-affected areas in the Raipur locality of Dehradun, following reports of excessive rainfall and waterlogging. During the visit, Dhami engaged with local residents at Kirsali Chowk, IT Park, Nanoorkhera, Amwala, Tapovan, and Shanti Vihar, and heard their concerns, emphasising that public safety remains the foremost priority of the state government.

On this occasion, the CM instructed the district administration to extend all possible assistance to those affected and, also, stressed upon regular cleaning of drains, along with improved drainage infrastructure to mitigate flooding in vulnerable pockets. Dhami also directed the authorities to install warning signage in sensitive zones and exercise heightened vigilance in view of the prevailing weather conditions.

Reinforcing the importance of proactive response, the CM urged the local police and relevant departments to stay on high alert and act promptly during emergencies. He emphasised on the need for swift coordination across departments to minimise response time and ensure the protection of life and property.

Among those present during the inspection were Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Bansal, Vice Chairman of the Disaster Management Advisory Committee Vinay Ruhela, MLA Umesh Sharma Kau, and the officials from the district administration, who accompanied the CM.

It may be recalled that continuous heavy rainfall has plunged most parts of Uttarakhand into a disaster-like situation. Not only are the state’s rivers in spate but widespread landslides are also causing significant disruptions to road networks across various regions. In a tragic incident, a person drowned in the river in Sapera Basti, Raipur area of Dehradun, yesterday. The victim, identified as Anil, 42, son of Chandraprakash, a resident of Tapovan Road, Dehradun, was swept away by the strong current in the Tapovan stream last night after slipping in. Acting on the information, Raipur Police has promptly launched a search operation along the riverbank. Anil, a painter by profession, was found unconscious about 1.5 km ahead in Shanti Vihar and immediately rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him as brought dead.
