Dehradun, 26 May: District Magistrate (DM) Ashish Chauhan conducted a surprise inspection of various offices, record rooms and the disaster operations centre located within the Collectorate premises here today. During the inspection, he reviewed the maintenance of records, cleanliness of offices, functioning of staff and the services being provided to the public, while issuing necessary directions to officials and employees. It may be recalled that Chauhan assumed charge as new DM of Dehradun district only yesterday, replacing Savin Bansal who has since been transferred as Secretary, Planning, at the Secretariat.

On this occasion, Chauhan directed the officers and the staff to adopt a sensitive approach towards the citizens visiting the offices with grievances and applications, and to ensure that their complaints are resolved in a timely and quality manner. He emphasised that providing prompt relief to every complainant in line with the intent of the government is the administration’s foremost priority. While examining the upkeep of files and records in different branches, he directed that all the documents be preserved in an organised manner so that they can be accessed immediately when required. He also asked for regular review of pending cases to avoid unnecessary delays.

During the inspection of the record room, the DM directed the officials to maintain records systematically and categorically, ensure digitisation and safeguard important files. He stressed that proper organisation of records would enable their immediate availability whenever needed.

Examining the cleanliness of offices, he remarked that clean and orderly workplaces play a vital role in improving work culture. He instructed officials concerned to ensure regular cleaning and maintain the premises in a well-arranged manner. Interacting with staff, he reminded them that public service is the core objective of administration and every officer and employee must discharge their responsibilities with transparency, accountability and commitment.

Chauhan also carried out a detailed inspection of the disaster operations centre. He also sought detailed information about disaster-prone areas in the district, including the landslide and heavy rainfall-affected locations and the remote villages accessible only on foot. He directed the officials to keep updated lists of sensitive and difficult-to-reach areas and to regularly test communication systems, alternative routes and relief arrangements. He emphasised that, with the monsoon and disaster risks approaching, all departments must work in close coordination and remain fully alert and prepared to deal with any emergency. He further instructed the officials at the disaster operations centre to ensure prompt collection and dissemination of information so that relief and rescue operations can be conducted swiftly when required.

On this occasion, ADM, Finance and Revenue, KK Mishra, City Magistrate Pratyush Singh, SDM, Headquarters, Apoorva Singh, SDM Kumkum Joshi and other officials and employees  concerned were among those present.
