Dehradun, 17 Aug: The anger of doctors against the Kolkata doctor rape-murder case is not subsiding. In Uttarakhand too, doctors across the state staged a protest and boycotted work today demanding strict action in the Kolkata doctor rape-murder case

There is an atmosphere of deep anguish and anger in the whole country over the rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata. Doctors across the country and across Uttarakhand also expressed their anguish by going on strike and demonstrating today. In the same sequence, doctors in different cities of Uttarakhand also took to the streets today and protested in their own way. At the same time, Doctor Vikas Deep of Haridwar District Hospital started a hunger strike demanding the arrest of the accused in this case.

On the call of the Provincial Medical Health Services Association of Uttarakhand, all the doctors and other employees working in government hospitals in Dehradun also went on strike. The doctors of Dehradun demanded immediate intervention from the Government of India and demanded the arrest of the criminals.

The state president of the Doctors Association, Dr Manoj today apologised for the inconvenience caused to the patients due to the strike of the doctors. He however added that the doctors had not boycotted emergency services. The doctors insisted that there is an urgent need to stop the incidents of violence and misbehaviour with medical personnel. Otherwise, the morale of the anarchic elements in the country will increase. This will lead to the possibility of a major accident in the future. Dr Manoj said that a protection act has been made for the safety of medical personnel, but this act is not being strictly followed. He raised the demand for police system in all hospitals and said that by getting police protection, all health workers, especially women, will have a sense of being safe.

Doctor Vikas Deep of Haridwar District Hospital, who is sitting on a dharna regarding the Kolkata doctor rape murder case, has made it clear that until the real culprits are not caught, he will not eat even a single grain of food. Even after the hunger strike, Dr Vikas Deep is doing his duty. Doctor Vikas Deep said that the facts that have come to light in the case are pointing towards a big conspiracy. Therefore, until the accused who committed the heinous crime with the female doctor are not arrested, he will remain on hunger strike. His fellow doctors claim that they tried a lot to convince Dr Vikas Deep against hunger strike, but he is not ready to listen to anyone. The anger of doctors is at its peak due to the Kolkata incident. However, emergency services are running smoothly so that patients do not face any kind of problem.

In the Mussoorie sub-district hospital, along with the doctors, other medical staff and fourth class employees also went on strike regarding the Kolkata doctor rape murder case. All of them have expressed their protest by taking out a rally at Mussoorie Ghantaghar Chowk. During this, the protesters demanded that the accused should be arrested as soon as possible and hanged. Like other cities of the state, doctors in Tehri district also went on strike today. Doctors kept OPD services closed in government hospitals of Tehri as well. Provincial Medical Health Service Association announced to protest by tying black ribbons to all the employees of all the districts.
