DEHRADUN, 2 May: First Lady Gurmeet Kaur inaugurated the Doon Handicraft Bazaar 2026, organized by Harshal Foundation at GMS Road, here on Saturday by lighting the ceremonial lamp. She took a tour of all the varied stalls set up by women entrepreneurs.
Addressing the gathering, the First Lady said that the event is not merely a marketplace or exhibition, but a unique confluence of women empowerment, self-reliance, and social sensitivity. She lauded, “When we look at these stalls, we see not just products, but the struggles, confidence, and aspirations of the women behind them.”
Appreciating the efforts of Harshal Foundation, she said that the organization’s commitment towards uplifting underprivileged sections of society, especially persons with disabilities, is commendable. She expressed happiness that the proceeds from the event are dedicated to the welfare of persons with disabilities. She emphasized that the participation of women entrepreneurs from Dehradun as well as cities like Vikasnagar, Haridwar, Roorkee, Saharanpur, and Indore reflects that this initiative to promote local products has now grown into a wider movement. She appealed to the public to support women entrepreneurs and encourage local products.
During the programme, Dr Rama Goyal detailed the foundation’s activities and highlighted its efforts to bring positive change in society through education, healthcare, and skill development. Various competitions for children and women were also organized, where participants showcased their talents.
Members of the Harshal Foundation team, women entrepreneurs from different regions, and other distinguished guests were present on the occasion.
