Dehradun, 22 Jul: The Dehradun Municipal Corporation (Doon Nagar Nigam) today launched a large-scale tree plantation drive at Danda Lakhond as part of the ongoing Green Fortnight campaign. This campaign was led by Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal and plantation was carried out in his presence.
Speaking on the occasion, Thapliyal observed that the plantation drive is an indication of the Nagar Nigam’s commitment towards enhancing the city’s green cover and promoting ecological sustainability.
Over 10,000 saplings, comprising Bamboo, Gulmohar (Delonix Regia), Kachnar (Bauhinia variegata) and various other flowering species, were planted during the event with active participation of Nagar Nigam office staff.
Thapliyal stated that that this initiative is part of a broader environmental awareness programme, and that a series of related events will continue to be held across the city until 31 July, reinforcing collective action towards a cleaner and greener Dehradun.
It may be recalled that yesterday, also, the Nagar Nigam organised a tree plantation drive near the Kargi waste collection centre as part of the Green Fortnight initiative. The Mayor was present yesterday also as Chief Guest on the occasion.
