Doon Varsity students excel at national level competition

Dehradun, 5 Feb: Adding yet another feather to their cap, Doon University students have successfully secured places in three competitions in the 37th Inter-University North Zone Youth Festival – Anantnad – 2024 held under the aegis of Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi.

Sneha Kothiyal, a student of Chemistry, and Sanjana, a student of Mass Communication, secured third place in the debate competition. Apart from this, the University cultural tableau secured fourth position, while the university students secured 5th place in photography.

The event was hosted by Punjabi University under the aegis of Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi.

Almost half of 18 participating universities could not open their accounts, while Doon University from Uttarakhand was successful in securing places in three competitions. The national level competition for the students of Doon University who have been selected will be held in Bangalore in the last week of March 2004.

“It is heartening to see encouraging results and significant positions our students have been securing in the extracurricular activities at the national level,” University Vice Chancellor Professor Surekha Dangwal said while honouring the students.

Around 1500 students from 18 university from across north India participated in the event that saw maximum participation from teachers and experts from Punjab, Himachal and Uttarakhand particularly. Eminent judges from various parts played an important role in the programmes organised during Anantnad-2024.

This event provides a unique platform to the students to hone their diverse skills. To make Anantnad-2024 a vibrant festival, various cultural activities like music, dance, drama, theatre and fine arts were organised during the five-day program at various places in the main campus of the Punjabi University from 31 January to 4 February.

As many as 26 competitions were organised which included cultural procession, folk orchestra, classical dance, painting, western solo, classical instrument, rangoli, western instrument, classical instrument, cartoon, one act play, photography, classical music, poster, mehendi, clay modelling, folk dance, group song, etc.

The university teams that participated included Cluster University, Jammu, Dev Sanskriti University, Uttarakhand, SCAST, Jammu, IK Gujral University, Kapurthala, Chandigarh University, Mohali, Doon University Uttarakhand, LPU, Jalandhar, Jammu University, HPU Shimla, Punjab University, Chandigarh, Gadwasu Ludhiana, Kashmir University, Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana, CT University Ludhiana, GNDU, Amritsar, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bhatinda, Punjabi University, Patiala, and DOV Jalandhar.

Registrar Dr MS Mandrawal, Prof HC Purohit, Dr Chetna Pokhriyal (Cultural Secretary), Dr Rajesh Bhatt and others expressed happiness and congratulated the students. This cultural group was led by Dr Ajit Panwar and Dr Sonu Kaur.
