Dehradun, 7 Aug: Dr Ammar Rizvi, President of All India Minorities Forum for Democracy, has in a press statement condemned the recent attacks on the Hindu minority and its places of worship in Bangladesh.

He said that during Pakistan Army Rule the Muslims and Hindus both had suffered equally. Both communities were targeted, killed and their houses were burnt. The Pakistan army junta did everything to silence the voice of freedom. The Bengali people under the leadership of Sheikh Mujib-ur-Rehman fought a pitched battle against Pak Army. With the help of the Indian Army Bangladesh was created. Pakistan was defeated. Ninety-three thousand Pakistani soldiers surrendered. They were kept in India as prisoners of war. Later, they were released.

Now the ill-treatment of the minority (Hindus) is most deplorable. Attacks on their places of worship is unforgivable. The President of Bangladesh may immediately issue effective orders and stop this madness. The minorities of India stand solidly with the Hindus and victims of this violence. Indian minorities appeal to the President of Bangladesh to immediately take effective action against the hooligans and restore peace and order, protect the lives of the common people, and places of worship of Hindus must be provided adequate security.

Dr Rizvi also appealed to the Prime Minister of India to use his good offices in persuading the Bangladesh President to restore normalcy immediately.
