New Delhi, 10 Sep: Dr Gaurav Luthra was awarded the prestigious “Dr Daljit Singh Gold Medal” by the Lt Governor of Delhi, Anil Baijal, for his outstanding work in Cataract & Refractive Surgery at the annual conference of the Intraocular Implant and Refractive Society of India (IIRSI), 2019, held on 7-8 September, here. More than 4,000 national and international ophthalmologists attended the conference. Padma Shri awardee the late Dr Daljit Singh was a pioneering Ophthalmologist from Amritsar who is credited with introducing many new surgical techniques and instruments. Dr Singh also helped introduce Intraocular Lens Implants (IOLs) in the country. The Dr Daljit Singh Gold Medal is considered to be the most prestigious award in the Ophthalmology fraternity. The conference was inaugurated by Lt Governor Anil Baijal. Dr Gaurav Luthra travels widely in India and overseas to teach new techniques in Cataract and Laser surgeries. He has been an invited faculty member to chair Ophthalmic sessions and perform live surgeries, helping Doctors understand and tackle challenging cases in Cataract surgery. Dr Luthra is heading the Cataract & Refractive Surgery Services at Drishti Eye Institute, Dehradun, which is a leading referral institute of the region offering advanced surgical facilities for Retina, Glaucoma, Squint & Cornea, besides Cataract & Lasik surgery for removal of glasses.
