Dr Harender Singh Bisht takes over as Director, CSIR-IIP

Dehradun, 4 Aug: Dr Harender Singh Bisht assumed charge as Director, CSIR-Indian Institute of Petroleum, here, today. He succeeded Prof Ramancharla Pradeep Kumar, who held additional charge as Director since 1 May, 2023.

Born on 12 October, 1971, Dr Harender Singh Bisht earned his PhD in Polymer Science from HNB Garhwal University in 2003 while working at CSIR-Indian Institute of Petroleum. Subsequently, he moved on to Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan, USA, for his first postdoctoral research on Temperature and pH-responsive smart polymers. These polymers are used as vectors of targeted gene delivery.

Dr Bisht had a brief academic experience at Amity University, Noida, during 2006-07. He also worked as Assistant Manager, R&D, at Dorf Ketal Chemicals (I) Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai, during 2007-08. He did his second Postdoctoral research on the Fictionalisation of Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles for MRI Imaging Applications at Bourgogne University, Dijon, France.

During his professional career, Dr Bisht worked at various organiSations and concerns of repute. Before beginning his stint at the CSIR-Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun, he was working with Reliance Industries Limited and leading the Coker and Advanced Carbon Material Group at Reliance, Jamnagar, as Vice President – Refining R&D.

Dr Bisht’s illustrious career also records numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals. He has filed 11 patents and published 21 research papers.
