Dehradun, 4 Jun: Dr Kannan CS Warrier, Director, Kerala Forest Research Institute, Peechi (Chief Scientist of the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education Dehradun, on Deputation) has been conferred the ‘Editor of Distinction Award 2026’ by Springer Nature. Springer Nature stands as one of the world’s largest and most prestigious scientific, technical, and medical publishers, recognised globally for advancing discovery and driving open research initiatives. The award celebrates the hard work, dedication, and leadership of editors in uplifting the journal’s standards and quality.
Dr Warrier has been serving as an Associate Editor of Agroforestry Systems, a Journal Published by Springer Nature and ranked among the top 10 journals in forestry research worldwide. This journal has 66 editors from 32 countries, and only 5 are from India.
Dr Warrier is also the recipient of two national awards. National Award of Excellence for Outstanding Research in Forestry (for pioneering research in the release of three salt-tolerant clones of Casuarina) and Rolla S Rao National Award for the best research on biodiversity conservation in India (comprehensive studies on the sacred groves of Alappuzha district in Kerala).
His VIDWAN Score, assessed by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, for the outstanding contributions in the field of forestry spanning over three decades which includes one among the only 17 prestigious patents in Forestry in India, is 10/10. The Ministry of Education recognises VIDWAN as a premier database of scientists’ profiles in India.
Apart from several awareness talks to students on environment, Dr Warrier has created environmental awareness by composing music for the official theme song Kadarivu of the Kerala Forest Department sung by the renowned singer late P Jayachandran in 2020, Vananeeru in 2025 and Prakruthi Vandanam based on Yajurveda for the Union Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change. He has also released over 160 songs on YouTube (music & rendition).
Dr Kannan Warrier was the first rank holder for both BSc and MSc degrees in Forestry and won the Kalaprathibha Award of the Kerala Agricultural University for five years.
