Dehradun/Shimla, 4 Jun: Uttarakhand Minister of Tourism, Public Works, Irrigation, Rural Construction, Religious Affairs and Culture, Satpal Maharaj, paid a courtesy visit on Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta at the Raj Bhavan in Shimla on Thursday. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed various important issues, including the proposed multipurpose Kishau Dam Project on the Tons River, a major tributary of the Yamuna.
Satpal Maharaj stated that the Kishau Dam Project is expected to provide irrigation facilities to approximately 97,076 hectares of land through the utilisation of 1,324 million cubic metres of water. In addition, the project will supply 617 million cubic metres of drinking water and generate 660 MW of hydropower.
He further stated that the construction of the project will result in the submergence of approximately 1,452 hectares of land in Uttarakhand and 1,498 hectares in Himachal Pradesh. Despite this, the project is expected to deliver significant long-term benefits to both states.
Maharaj emphasised that Uttarakhand will receive its designated share of electricity generated from the project, which will help meet the state’s growing energy requirements. Furthermore, additional water will be made available for irrigation in Dehradun and surrounding agricultural areas, contributing to enhanced agricultural productivity and greater benefits for farmers.
