GEHU holds 4th Convocation Ceremony

DEHRADUN, 11 Oct: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh participated as the Chief Guest at the Fourth Convocation ceremony of Graphic Era Hill University, here, on Friday. A total of 8,245 candidates, including 17 Doctor of Philosophy recipients from the 2023 and 2024 batches, were awarded postgraduate and undergraduate degrees.
The Governor remarked that the convocation is one of the most memorable achievements in a student’s life. He expressed pride in witnessing the university and its faculty graduates embarking on a new journey. He emphasised that education is not just about obtaining a degree but understanding and fulfilling one’s responsibilities towards society.
He noted that the present time brings numerous opportunities, with technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, big data, drone technology, quantum computing, augmented reality, and the metaverse rapidly changing the landscape. The role of AI is continually evolving across all sectors, including education. He urged all stakeholders in the academic community to work collaboratively toward building an ecosystem that incorporates AI and other technology-based education.
The Governor appealed to students to stay away from substance abuse, highlighting its detrimental effects on society and their future. He stated that substance abuse not only affects physical and mental health but also leads to crime and social instability. He called for concrete steps by the government, social organisations, and educational institutions to address this serious issue.
He emphasised that the country is at a decisive juncture in its history, moving towards the goal of a developed India by 2047. He expressed confidence that the students would embody the values and qualities acquired from the institution to contribute to a self-reliant and developed India.
The Governor praised the achievements of Graphic Era Hill University, noting its focus on research as a key aspect of progress. He highlighted that, since January 2023, the university members have contributed 2,708 papers/books to Scopus/SCI/UGC Care journals, which is commendable. He also congratulated the faculty for initiating 488 patents and receiving grants for 28 of them since January 2023.
During the ceremony, the University President, Professor Kamal Ghanshala, encouraged students to commit themselves to the nation’s and the state’s development. The convocation was attended by Vice-Chancellor Professor Sanjay Jasola, Padma Vibhushan awardee Chandiprasad Bhatt, university officials, faculty members, and students.
Vice Chancellor Dr Sanjay Jasola administered the oath to degree holders and highlighted achievements of the university. Dr Jasola said that thirteen years ago, the mission of shaping the future of youngsters that Dr Kamal Ghanshala started by establishing Universities in Dehradun and Bhimtal campuses in record 100 days, is taking shape today. This journey has become a milestone with the vision of new researches, patents and taking youngster to the peak of success. During this, Pooja from a small village of Tehri securing placement with annual package of 84.33 Lakh rupees and a long list of other achievements was shared.
79 Gold and 75 silver medals to studentsBy Our Staff ReporterDehradun,11 October: In the fourth Convocation of Graphic Era Hill University, 79 topper students of their courses were awarded gold medals. Along with this, 75 were given silver medals and 75 students received bronze medals.In the Convocation ceremony, degrees were given to 8,245 students who completed their course in the year 2023 and 2024. These included 17 students who have received PhD degree. 9 students got PhD degree for the year 2023 and eight students got PhD degree for the year 2024. Those who received gold medals in the year 2023 included Priyanka Suyal, Deepak Tiwari, Kamal Kumar Kandpal, Abhishek Dhasmana, Ragini Rana, Nimisha Gairola, Mahvish Zakir, Divya Nautiyal, Rashi Chauhan, Aarti Gairola including 40 students and 39 students including Neha Sethi, Anjali Joshi, Simran Rana, Daivik Mohan, Aryan, Anushka Mishra, Tania Sharma, Simran Sharma, Saumya Rawat, Aastha Thakur, Rishabh Dubey are among those who got gold medal in the year 2024.Of the year 2023 batch, 863 students were awarded postgraduate degrees and 3055 were awarded graduate degrees. 1346 youth of the batch of 2024 were given post-graduate degree and 2964 students were given graduate degree.
