Dehradun, 20 Mar: The Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA), in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority, Government of India, has initiated a series of tests to strengthen the state’s early warning system. The primary objective of this initiative is to ensure that weather forecasts and disaster-related alerts reach the public promptly and effectively, thereby minimising potential loss of life and property.

Today USDMA issued a testing alert across the state to evaluate the efficiency of the emergency information dissemination system. The exercise aimed to assess whether alerts are being transmitted in a timely and widespread manner during emergencies. The officials informed that regular testing will continue for a week to identify gaps in coverage and ensure that alerts are reaching citizens across different telecom service providers.

The trials are also designed to measure the speed and accuracy with which messages reach the public under varying conditions. By refining this system, authorities hope to establish stronger coordination between administration and citizens during emergencies, enabling precautionary measures to be taken well in advance.

The officials also emphasised that the effort is a significant step towards making Uttarakhand more resilient, vigilant, and secure against disasters. Citizens have been urged to treat such alerts seriously, avoid panic, and follow official instructions. The joint endeavour is expected to play a crucial role in safeguarding the state from the impact of future calamities.
