Meeting of Migration Prevention Commission held in Bhararisain Assembly Complex

Chamoli, 13 Nov: A meeting of the Migration Prevention Commission was held on Wednesday in the Bhararisain Assembly Complex under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to address the issue of migration from Uttarakhand’s hill regions. The meeting focused on discussing the primary causes of migration and developing strategies to meet the basic needs of rural areas to curb this issue.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasised that the state government is serious about tackling the migration problem and is actively working on several plans to address it. The government is continuously working on creating employment opportunities and developing infrastructure in rural areas. Efforts are being made to strengthen education and healthcare services. Additionally, community development programmes at the local level are being used to link youth with self-employment opportunities. Over the past three years, special focus has been placed on self-employment, and efforts to make these initiatives more effective are ongoing.
The Chief Minister further stated that the government is working with the goal of making Uttarakhand one of the top-performing states by 2025. To implement the suggestions provided by the Migration Prevention Commission, a solid action plan is being formulated through the departments concerned. The process for implementing welfare schemes is being simplified to ensure maximum benefit for the people.
The Chief Minister mentioned that the state government has implemented various schemes to stop migration from rural areas. Under these schemes, the development of basic amenities and the creation of new employment opportunities are being prioritised in villages. He also noted that efforts are being made to involve migrants, both from other states and abroad, in this mission. Valuable suggestions from migrants have been received and will be implemented on the ground.
During the meeting, members proposed working on short-term, medium-term, and long-term plans for migration prevention with the cooperation of various departments. There was an emphasis on the effective implementation of schemes in the hilly regions to meet basic needs and curb migration.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Radha Raturi, Vice-Chairman of the Migration Commission SS Negi, and other senior officials.
