Dehradun, 18 Oct: Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) participated in a programme organised by the Rashtriya Sainik Sanstha at the Constitution Club, New Delhi, on Monday.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Singh said that, due to the tireless efforts of the dedicated members, the Rashtriya Sainik Sanstha strengthened the spirit of patriotism among the youth along with helping the families of martyrs and working for the welfare of ex-servicemen. It also worked for the eradication of various social evils and was a unique organisation.
The Governor added, “It is a matter of pride that today about 1 lakh ex-servicemen and civilians have joined the Rashtriya Sainik Sanstha dedicated to the service of the nation. These dedicated members are constantly striving to help and ensure the well-being of the martyrs’ families and the ex-servicemen. Honouring the martyrs and helping the dependants of the martyrs is the collective responsibility of all.”
The Governor urged that the ex-servicemen use their experience and knowledge for nation building and the betterment of the society. Qualities like conscientiousness, discipline, honesty always accompany the soldiers. They are all natural leaders. He asked them to connect people with nation building and works in public interest.
He asked that the students be motivated for the work of nation building and social service in schools and colleges. He advised that all citizens read the Fundamental Duties mentioned in Article 51 of the Constitution of India and follow them faithfully.
He declared that it was a matter of pride for him to become the Governor of Tapobhoomi, Sainik Dham Uttarakhand. At least one person from each family served in the armed forces. It had the four holy places – Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath, and holy sites of Sikh Gurus. It was also the Tapobhoomi of Guru Gobind Singh, the soldier, saint and scholar.
Major General PK Tyagi (Retd), Wing Commander Praphul Bakshi (Retd), Major General Dr Vipin Bakshi (Retd), HH Acharya, Dr Lokesh Muni, Col TP Tyagi, Rajendra Bagasi, Major Sushil Goyal and others were present on the occasion.
