World Standards’ Day celebrated at Nimbuwala

Dehradun, 14 Oct: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in a programme organised on the occasion of “World Standards’ Day” at the Himalayan Cultural Centre, Nimbuwala, in Garhi Cantt here today. On this occasion, he also visited various stalls put up there.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister stated that it is a matter of joy that such an important topic is being discussed today, which is very important for strengthening the government’s resolve of a self-reliant India. He said that ensuring standards is a must to give Indian products a top position on the global map.
Dhami observed that standards are not just technical guidelines, specifications or criteria, but are the foundation of development and self-reliance for the country. The standards established by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) play a very important role in the certification of the industries, trade, and services. These standards not only ensure the quality of the work but also affect the life of every citizen of the country in some way or the other.

The CM also stated that the ecosystem of standards has expanded extensively in recent years, now covering almost all sectors, including agriculture, road transport, health, and other services. Standards of high quality, safety, and efficiency should be implemented in all areas, which will improve the people’s standard of living besides strengthening the economy. Standards ensure that Indian products get global recognition and their credibility increases. He claimed said that the dream of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” is being realised under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the role of standards set by the Bureau of Indian Standards is also very important in this. If the products are manufactured or produced in accordance with global standards, their quality will not only increase, but it will also provide a strong basis to make Indian industries competitive in the international market. He asserted that the Prime Minister’s objective is that Indian products should set an example in the whole world for their quality, innovation, and reliability. To fulfil this objective, more than 22,000 standards have been determined by the Bureau of Indian Standards.
The CM said that Uttarakhand, apart from being a beautiful state rich in natural resources, is also progressing rapidly in industrial and agricultural development. Therefore, there is an extreme need to follow the standards in the state also. To ensure competitiveness in the national and international market, it is important that high standards are set even for the traditional products, such as handicrafts, organic agricultural products, medicinal herbs, and other local products. This will not only increase the recognition of the state’s products at the national level but also strengthen branding at the global level.
The Chief Minister reminded that, under the guidance of the Prime Minister, the state government has established an umbrella brand named “House of Himalayas”, which is an important step towards getting global recognition to local products. He expected the officials of the Bureau of Indian Standards to measure the standards of these brands as well.
The Chief Minister said that the theme of this year’s World Standards Day is SDG-9, which is related to industry, innovation, and infrastructure.
Cabinet Minister Rekha Arya said that, to achieve success in any field of life, it is necessary to set standards.
On this occasion, Secretary and Commissioner, Food, Hari Chandra Semwal, Director General, UCOST, Prof Durgesh Pant, and Joint Director, Bureau of Indian Standards, Shyam Kumar were also present.
