CM hands over recognition certificates to 26 Madrasas

Dehradun, 2 Sep: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today handed over recognition certificates to 26 minority educational institutions (madrasas) at a ceremony organised by the Uttarakhand State Minority Education Authority at IRDT Auditorium, Dehradun. The event was themed “New Identity, New Respect. Bright Future through Modern Education”.
Addressing the gathering on this occasion, the CM asserted that granting recognition to 26 Madrasas under the new Act marks an important and positive beginning in the field of minority education. He congratulated the representatives of the recognised institutions and emphasised that working in the sphere of education is directly linked to shaping the future of society and the nation. He also stressed that the purpose of establishing the authority is to ensure that all the children receive modern and quality education, enabling them to develop their personality and secure their future.
Dhami stressed that traditions have their own importance, but the present era belongs to knowledge, science, technology, innovation and artificial intelligence. He reminded that the world is changing rapidly and every nation is striving to advance in science and technology. In such times, connecting children with the modern education is essential so that they can prepare themselves for future challenges. He said education must help children develop their personality, bring out their talent and build their future, whether they become doctors, engineers, administrators, writers or scientists. He added that even those entering agriculture now need to adopt modern techniques, as research and innovation are transforming every sector including the agriculture.
Dhami clarified that government policies are not aimed at targeting any individual or community. Referring to the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), he said it was not introduced to single out any group, and similarly the Minority Education Authority has not been created to target anyone. The government’s objective is to provide equal opportunities to all and ensure that every child has the chance to progress. He reiterated that Uttarakhand values harmony and brotherhood among various communities and does not discriminate on the basis of identity or class, but on the basis of work and contribution.
He mentioned the government’s action against illegal encroachments on public land, stating that lawful owners with valid documents would not be harassed. He highlighted initiatives to promote skills and employment across all the sections of society, including loans and facilities for youth and opportunities for the girls. He claimed that persons who had never imagined holding significant responsibilities have been entrusted with important roles, citing the examples of Authority Vice‑Chairperson Farzana and Chairperson Dr Surjit Singh Gandhi.
Dhami urged the society to adopt a positive outlook towards the UCC, noting that many Muslim countries have also implemented it. He said that for decades certain sections had been denied opportunities and quality education, and fear was instilled about their progress. Now, he stressed, it is time to change this mindset and take society forward through education and development.
He referred to welfare schemes under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including ration, healthcare facilities, health cover up to Rs 5 lakhs and gas connections, all provided without discrimination. He said the same principle should apply in education, ensuring equal opportunities for all the children.
The CM described the initiative in minority education as a new beginning, requiring cooperation and trust between government and institutions. He emphasised that education is the foundation of children’s future and must evolve with changing times. He cited agriculture as an example, where modern machinery has replaced traditional methods, and said education too must embrace new knowledge and technology.
He noted that children aged 14–15 today often possess technical and digital knowledge beyond that of adults, and society must recognise their abilities while guiding them with values. He stressed the importance of listening to children, understanding their feelings and providing a positive environment for their growth. Dhami said society must move away from the mindset of using people only for political support or slogans, without caring for their education and future. He emphasised that education and development must now be prioritised.
Minority Welfare Minister Khajan Das, Chairman of newly set up Uttarakhand State Minority Education Authority Dr Surjit Singh Gandhi, Special Secretary Dr Parag Madhukar Dhakate, Additional Secretary Vikram Singh Yadav, along with departmental officials, public representatives, institution delegates and other dignitaries were among those present on this occasion.
