Dehradun, 30 Jul: Badrinath National Highway was again obstructed today for traffic due to falling of debris and boulders near Langsi. A ten-metre stretch of road has also been damaged due to the landslides and thousands of travellers are reported to be stranded here due to the closure of the highway. NHAI team and the district administration is currently engaged in clearing the road of obstructions so that the movement of traffic can be started at the earliest.

On the other hand, vehicle movement was resumed on Yamunotri Highway also after seven hours today, but movement continues to be highly risky because of wet debris and mud still lying on the road at various places.

At the same time, the search for two youths along with their vehicle that went missing from Amsod of Narayanbagh on Gwaldam Highway last Friday night is still underway with no success, yet.

Here the debris is being removed by the police and administration with the help of a Pokland machine. There is a possibility of the youths being buried under the debris as the tarpaulin and rope of the vehicle were seen in the debris. Rescue operation is going on.

At the same time, many rivers in Garhwal region, in particular, continue to be in spate due to torrential rains in the hills as well in Dehradun Valley. Due to the heavy rain in the upper areas adjacent to Doiwala in Dehradun district for the past two days, many rivers are flowing in spate. The Suswa River flowing through Doiwala is also in spate and even the safety wall built on the riverbank could not withstand the fierce waves of the river and was swept away. Here a large agricultural area under crops has been damaged. The safety wall built to protect the farmers’ fields from the river water has also been washed away. Due to this, the river water is reaching the standing crops in the farmers’ fields. The fields are now on the verge of being eroded. The farmers have demanded the irrigation department officials take safety measures to save the fields.

The safety wall that was erected to protect the fields in the Barowala area has been washed away by the water. The irrigation canal has also been damaged. This has created a crisis for the farmers to save their fields. They have demanded the department take safety measures as soon as possible.
