Gov briefed on upcoming 8th Edition of Valley of Words Lit Fest

Dehradun, 6 Aug: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) was on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit by ‘Valley of Words: International Literature & Arts Festival’ founder and retired IAS officer Sanjeev Chopra and his colleagues at the Raj Bhawan, here.

On this occasion, Chopra invited the Governor for the 8th edition of the upcoming Valley of Words festival and informed him about the various activities and achievements of the organisation.

Sanjeev Chopra explained to the Governor in detail about the objectives of Valley of Words, efforts to promote literature and culture, and various literary and cultural programmes. He revealed that this year’s event will provide a platform to the participants who have made a special contribution in the field of literature, art, and culture. This time the event will be an important opportunity for literature lovers and scholars through various sessions, workshops, and panel discussions.

The Governor appreciated the efforts of Valley of Words and said that such events play an important role in promoting literary and cultural consciousness in the society.  He said that this event will help in preserving the rich literary and cultural heritage of Uttarakhand and such programmes will also inspire the young generation of Uttarakhand.

Chopra also informed the Governor about the main attractions of the event, speakers, and literary competitions. The Governor congratulated the team of Valley of Words for their efforts and wished for the success of the programme.

Chopra presented the Governor a copy of the recently launched Hindi edition of his book “We, the People of the States of Bharat: The Making and Remaking of India’s Internal Boundaries”.

Retired bureaucrat and writer Sanjeev Chopra further briefed the Governor about the Lead at VoW initiative on the intergenerational connect between the eight knowledge institutions of Doon: Survey of India, National Hydrographic Office, Forest Research Institute, Wildlife Institute of India, Swami Rama Himalayan University, Dwijendra Nath Sen Memorial Cultural Centre and the Sakya Academy. The eight schools chosen for this initiative include: 1. Survey of India-Doon International School; 2. National Hydrographic Office-Jaswant Modern Sr Sec School; 3. FRI-Gyananda School; 4. Wildlife Institute of India-St Kabeer Academy; 5. Swami Rama Himalayan University-Mount Fort Academy; 6. Dwijendra Nath Sen Memorial Centre-HimJyoti School; 7. Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology-The Tons Bridge School; and 8. Sakya College-Kasiga School.

Swami Rama Himalayan University Vice Chancellor, Dr Rajendra Dobhal; educationist Jyoti Dhawan; Media Personality Satish Sharma; Jt Director, Information, Nitin Upadhyay were also present at the meeting.
