Dehradun 26 July: Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) on Friday visited the newly constructed Uttarakhand Disaster Management Authority building at IT Park and received detailed information from the officials regarding the current rainfall situation, water level of rivers, condition of routes and forecast and preparations for the coming days.
The Governor, in a virtual meeting with the District Magistrates, obtained information about disaster events, Chardham Yatra preparedness, forecasts and plans of the administration. He appreciated the vigilance, coordination and integration of various departments of the District Magistrates during natural disasters.
Praising the village head, Bir Singh Panwar, who was helping more than a hundred pilgrims stranded in Madyamaheshwar after the foot bridge on the Morkanda river in Rudraprayag district collapsed, the Governor spoke to him via video conferencing and thanked him for his cooperation. He said that the service, cooperation and role of the people of Uttarakhand as responsible citizens cannot be praised enough, because they perform like warriors during the time of disaster.
The Governor praised the disaster management of Uttarakhand and claimed that disaster management and mitigation works are being done in a professional manner in the state. District Magistrates have a big responsibility during the monsoon, and he expressed satisfaction with the preparedness of all the districts and departments.
Lt Gen Singh appreciated the daily report issued from the control room of USDMA, which contains detailed information about the situation and conditions of the state. He described the role of artificial intelligence and modern technology as important and directed documentation of the works of disaster management.
Appreciating the Silkyara Tunnel Rescue Operation, the Governor praised the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and said that this campaign established the excellent disaster management of Uttarakhand on the world stage.
Finally, the Governor directed the officials of USDMA to create a dashboard within three months, which would be helpful in conducting relief and rescue operations and taking decisions on disaster management.
On this occasion, Secretary, Disaster Management, Vinod Kumar Suman and others were also present.
