Dehradun, 26 Jul: The nation commemorated the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, today, honouring the valour, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication of the armed forces. On this day in 1999, the Indian Armed Forces had a decisive victory in the Kargil War.
Kargil Vijay Diwas is a reminder of the courage displayed by the soldiers who fought in the most challenging conditions to protect the sovereignty of the nation. Their heroism and commitment continue to inspire every Indian.
The Ibex Brigade held its Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations at multiple locations in the Joshimath Station. Senior officials of the civil administration, military personnel, ex-servicemen, local school children and Veer Gaurav Sainani gathered to pay homage to the fallen heroes. The event included a Wreath-Laying Ceremony and heartfelt tributes to those who made the ultimate sacrifice; followed by felicitation of Kargil Heros, Pipe Band display and weapons display by the Army units.
On the occasion, Brig MS Dhillon, Commander 9(I) Mountain Brigade Group, said, “Kargil Vijay Diwas is not just a day of remembrance, it is a day of pride for every Indian. We salute the indomitable spirit of our soldiers and their families who stood strong during this challenging period. Their bravery has ensured the safety and security of our nation.
The event was also witnessed by Maj Gen Pankaj Chauhan, (Retd), Chandra Shekhar Vashist, SDM, Joshimath, Pravin Anantrao Pande, GM, NTPC, Ajay Bhatt, Manager Ski Association of Uttarakhand & ex-coach Indian Ski Team, VV Martoliya, DFO, Joshimath, Kishore Panwar, Dy President, BKTC, and other dignitaries.
