Dehradun, 25 Mar: The 16th General Assembly meeting of the State Child Welfare Council, Uttarakhand, was held on Tuesday at the Raj Bhavan, here, under the chairmanship of Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd). During the meeting, the Governor emphasised the need for the council to incorporate new schemes in line with modern-day requirements and stressed the importance of achieving financial self-reliance.
The Governor directed Secretary Ravinath Raman and Chandresh Kumar Yadav to develop a roadmap for strengthening the council financially and integrating modern technology into its initiatives. He stated that an innovative action plan is essential for ensuring financial sustainability, launching new programmes, and effectively fulfilling the council’s objectives. The State Child Welfare Council should play a pivotal role in ensuring that children benefit from various state and central government welfare schemes, he added.
The Governor stressed that no child should be deprived of quality education, healthcare, and nutrition due to a lack of resources or infrastructure. He highlighted the importance of recognising children’s talents and preparing them as a skilled workforce for the future. Given the era of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, the Governor urged the council to design initiatives that equip children with cutting-edge technological skills for their personal growth as well as the progress of the state and the nation. He also emphasised the need to expand the council’s reach to remote areas of Uttarakhand.
The Governor called for greater public participation in the activities of the Child Welfare Council and stressed the need to engage more people in its initiatives. He noted that child welfare is a cause that resonates with everyone, and the council must strengthen its outreach to the general public. Increasing the number of members by engaging with society will help expand its impact. He also appreciated the contributions of council members who have played an active role in its activities.
During the meeting, the Governor approved the estimated income and expenditure for 2024-25 and endorsed various key proposals. General Secretary Pushpa Manas presented a summary of the resolutions passed in the 15th General Assembly meeting and provided an overview of the activities undertaken in the past year.
The meeting was attended by Secretary to the Governor, Ravinath Raman, Secretary Chandresh Kumar Yadav, Financial Controller Dr Tripti Srivastava, Senior Vice President of Uttarakhand State Child Welfare Council, Jagdish Babla, Vice President Madhu Beri, Treasurer Dr Asha Srivastava, Joint Secretary Kamleshwar Prasad Bhatt, Treasurer, Red Cross, Mohan Khatri, along with various office bearers, council members, and district executive members.
