Dehradun 16 May: Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress President Karan Mahara has severely criticised the State BJP Government for “mismanagement of the Char Dham Yatra”. In a statement issued today, he alleged huge irregularities in the ongoing Char Dham Yatra and blamed the Pushkar Singh Dhami Government for this. Mahara claimed that the kind of irregularities being seen in the pilgrimage show that the state government is not at all serious about ensuring a smooth Char Dham Yatra by spending crores of rupees.
Karan Mahara alleged that after the opening of the portals of Gangotri Dham, on the occasion of Ganga Saptami festival, due to government mismanagement and negligence of the local administration, there was a huge traffic jam and a large number of pilgrims were not able to reach the Shrine. He said that this incident has not sent a good message across the country.
The State Congress President added that the pilgrims of Kedarnath and Badrinath Dhams are also arriving but there are no adequate arrangements for drinking water or medical facilities by the government. He claimed that due to this negligence, 12 pilgrims have died untimely within a week since the commencement of the Yatra. He also claimed that this is not the first time, last year, too, hundreds of pilgrims on pilgrimage had lost their lives due to lack of availability of timely medical facilities due to the negligence of the government. The BJP government did not learn any lesson from last year’s incidents. He said that there is panic among the pilgrims due to the news of food samples failing on the yatra routes.
Accusing the BJP government of arbitrariness, Mahara also raised the question that despite the order of the Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand Government on VIP Darshan, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and the Governor ignored this order. Even State Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj along with his wife, former minister Amrita Rawat, reached Badrinath Dham. He demanded that the Dhami government clarify whether the people sitting in the government are beyond the rules.
Mahara, while demanding from the government to make arrangements for the Char Dham Yatra smoother, added that the provision of basic facilities for the pilgrims should be immediately ensured.
