Govt committed to drug-abuse free U’khand by 2025: Dhami

Dehradun, 12 Dec: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the Drugs Free Devbhoomi Mission-2025 programme at Gandhi Park, here, today. On this occasion, he asserted that the target has been set to make Devbhoomi Uttarakhand drug abuse free by 2025. For this, everyone concerned has to work together to make this campaign successful. Continuous efforts are being made to stop drug trafficking and dismantle the drugs network in the state. The CM underlined that addiction harms not only a person but also the entire family and the entire social environment. While, on the one hand,, awareness is being raised against drugs among the people and especially the youth in the state, on the other hand, strict action is also being taken against the criminals involved in drug trafficking. So far, this year, about 600 cases have been registered under the NDPS Act, in which about 750 accused have been arrested. A three-tier Anti Narcotics Task Force was formed in the state in 2022 for the prevention of drug abuse and effective action in this regard.

Dhami added that de-addiction centres are being made effective in all the districts of the state to deal with drug addiction and to bring the addicts into mainstream society for their rehabilitation. At present, there are four Integrated Rehabilitation Centres for Addicts operating in the state. The CM added that an awareness campaign is being run by the state government on the ill effects of drug addiction among various sections of society and especially the youth. Helpline numbers have also been issued for drug prevention and information related to it and for any kind of assistance to the public. The Chief Minister expressed the hope that with everyone’s cooperation and the tireless efforts being made by the institutions, the target to make the state free of drugs will be definitely achieved before time.

The Chief Minister appreciated the efforts of Teelu Rauteli Award winning organisation ‘Adarsh Industrial Autonomy Cooperative’ for making people aware about the ill effects of drugs. He said that the organisation is making people aware by organising awareness programmes, rallies as well as by hosting seminars against feticide, dowry harassment and other issues. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also administered the oath of a drug abuse free Uttarakhand.

Asha Kothari, President of Adarsh Industrial Autonomous Cooperative Society and programme coordinator, expressed her gratitude to the Chief Minister. The programme was moderated by Secretary Harish Kothari.

On this occasion, RSS Prantiya Prachar Pramukh Sanjay, Regional Chief Commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Uttarakhand, and Director of Secondary Education Seema Jaunsari, former Mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’, Regional Secretary, Bharat Scouts and Guides Uttarakhand, Ravindra Mohan Kala, Patron of the organisation Major Ravindra Singh Bisht, Vishnu Tyagi, Archana Bagri, Devendra Bisht, Rajendra Singh Dhillon were among those present.
