CM launches several welfare schemes for construction workers

Dehradun, 23 Jul: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today launched several new welfare schemes under the Uttarakhand Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board for registered construction workers. On the occasion, he also flagged off two medical mobile vans under the Chief Minister Health Scheme for workers and their families.
Addressing a programme held at Chief Minister’s camp office, Dhami asserted that the government is working with firm resolve for the welfare of workers. He added that the schemes being introduced would prove to be milestones in improving the lives of workers and their families. Through the Chief Minister Nutrition Scheme, nutritional assistance would be provided to worker families, while the Chief Minister Education Material Scheme would ensure supply of study material to children. Inspired by the Prime Minister’s cleanliness campaign, the Chief Minister Sanitation Material Distribution Programme will provide hygiene kits to worker households.
Dhami stated that the Chief Minister Yoga and Wellness Scheme would impart free training in yoga and wellness to the eligible students, with residential facilities for 210 children every year. Seventy youths undergoing technical training would also be linked with employment opportunities after completion. He emphasised that the board is functioning transparently and benefits are reaching genuine workers. Under the Chief Minister Worker Health Testing Scheme, mobile medical vans equipped with X-ray, ECG and 44 types of free tests would deliver health services at workplaces and residences. Tele-consultation with specialist doctors and three months of follow-up monitoring would also be provided. The CM shared that the service has already begun in Pauri Garhwal and Champawat districts and would soon be expanded across the state in phases.
Recalling the Prime Minister’s call of ‘Shrameva Jayate’ in 2014, Dhami said the state government is committed to the principle of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’ and considers workers not merely as labour power but as the driving force of Uttarakhand’s development. He stressed that the hands building the state’s progress must themselves live secure, healthy and prosperous lives. He claimed that the government is extending financial support for the education of workers’ children, providing assistance to women workers during maternity, and offering aid for the marriage of daughters in worker families.
Dhami urged workers to renew their registration with the board regularly to avail benefits of all welfare schemes. He said the government is also providing tools, bicycles and sewing machines to strengthen livelihoods, financial aid for building or purchasing houses, and monthly pensions for elderly workers to ensure economic security and dignity.
Earlier, Board Secretary PC Dumka presented the details of the board’s activities and the new schemes.
